Lesson Overview 課程重點

This free GEPT Elementary speaking handout helps students talk about school clubs, after-school activities, interests, schedules and invitations.

Students read three A2 situations, learn practical vocabulary, practice six model dialogs, and use speaking frames for pair role-play.

The material is original classroom content informed by youth activity and after-school program resources.

Situation 1 | At the Club Fair

It is Friday afternoon, and Sunny Junior High School has a club fair in the gym. Many club members stand behind tables. They show posters, photos, and short videos about their clubs. Tina wants to join a club this semester, but she does not know which one to choose.

First, Tina visits the art club. A student shows her a notebook with many colorful drawings. The club meets every Wednesday after school. Tina likes art, but she also wants to practice speaking English. Next, she visits the English drama club. The members read short scripts and act on stage.

Tina asks, 'Can beginners join?' The club leader says, 'Yes. You do not need to be perfect. You only need to try.' Tina feels less nervous. She writes her name on the sign-up sheet and decides to try the first meeting next week.

Situation 2 | Choosing an After-school Club

Ben wants to join a club, but he has piano class on Mondays and math class on Thursdays. He checks his schedule before he signs up. He is interested in basketball, English, and board games. He wants a fun club, but he also needs time to finish homework.

Ben talks to his homeroom teacher, Ms. Lin. She says, 'Choose a club that you can go to every week. If you miss many meetings, it will be hard to enjoy it.' Ben thinks about this advice. The basketball team practices three days a week, so it may be too busy for him.

Finally, Ben chooses the English board game club. The club meets on Wednesday afternoon. Members play simple games, learn useful words, and talk in English. Ben thinks it is a good choice because it is fun and helps him improve his speaking.

Situation 3 | Inviting a Friend

Ruby wants to join the volunteer club. The club visits a community center once a month and helps younger children read picture books. Ruby likes helping people, but she is shy. She wants to invite her classmate Jay to join with her.

At lunch, Ruby says, 'Jay, would you like to try the volunteer club with me?' Jay is not sure. He asks, 'What do members do?' Ruby explains that members read stories, play simple games, and help children clean up after class. Jay says it sounds meaningful, but he is worried about speaking in front of people.

Ruby says, 'We can start with easy jobs. We can pass out books or help children find seats.' Jay agrees to try one meeting. Ruby feels happy because joining a club with a friend makes a new activity easier.

Teacher Notes 老師備課建議

Start with a quick class survey: sports club, music club, art club, service club or English club.

Use the dialogs for controlled speaking first, then ask students to replace club names, meeting times and reasons.

For stronger students, ask them to create a new school club and present it as a short advertisement.
